On Wednesday, October 23rd, Music Sweet Music visited SPC’s oldest campus, the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus that opened in 1942 and is a full-service location on 66th street and 5th Avenue in St. Petersburg.
Ted Wagner and Music Therapist Jennifer Miller were the guest speakers of Law Professor Deborah Cerminaro-Eldridge who teaches in SPC’s Music Department, Ethics. The course is intended to prepare music students to better and protect themselves in their chosen profession with an overview of basic legal concepts and laws a professional can face in the music and recording arts industry.
Both Ted an d Jennifer told the music students that although a career path as a professional musician can be exceptionally rewarding to those who are passionate about the vocation of performing, the reality is that there are many, many more options that are available to those who have or are seeking a bachelors degree in music.
MSM spoke to the students of their ability to pursue a degree in Music Therapy and how becoming a Music Therapist can offer challenge, opportunity, and distinctive rewards to those interested in working with people of all ages with various disabilities. The students were amazed at the various opportunities and different settings an MT can be involved in such as community mental health agencies, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, veterans with PTSD and much more.
The students of Law Professor Cerminaro-Eldridge were truly engaged and very active as they asked questions. Music Sweet Music is grateful to Law Professor Cerminaro-Eldridge for facilitating this forum to educate her students about Music Therapy.
